King and Joker from England salt and pepper shakers

This wonderful set created by Artone from England in the 1950s-60s depicts a joker and his king.  But not just any king - the "suicide king" from a deck of playing cards.  See how it appears the king's sword is sticking in his head and notice he is pointing to his heart.

The king of hearts is sometimes called the "suicide king" because he appears to be sticking his sword into his head. This is a result of centuries of bad copying by English card makers where the king's axe has disappeared behind his head.
